About Us

Our history goes back two generations before Duane Vaagen, Vaagen’s current CEO. In 1952, Duane’s father, Bert and uncle Bud started the small family operation. The Colville mill became operational shortly after, in 1972. Duane’s parents and grandparents lived through the Great Depression, and the philosophy “waste not, want not” was ingrained into the family’s approach to life and business. Vaagen has adopted that same philosophy in our approach to forestry to ensure everything is utilized and nothing is wasted.

Our Roots

What started as a small family operation has grown, with the original family values still at the heart of all our operations today. This continuity of management, vision, and leadership has helped guide our company for over half a century – creating a culture of innovation, integrity, and cooperation that has fueled Vaagen’s advancement, evolution, and growth over the years.

Our Mission

Since day one, our mission has been to respect our fellow team members, provide outstanding value to our customers, build prosperous communities, and do what’s best for the health of our forests. This hasn’t always been easy, but it has been made possible by staying true to these values and maintaining a willingness to adapt.
